How do new strata laws impact DIY renovators?

Building maintenance toolsWe covered this in an earlier article on the imminent strata law changes. however we thought this article was worthwhile sharing.

In this article, Jimmy Thomson from the Flat Chat column in the Domain explains how DIY renovators need to be mindful that many activities will need prior approval by the strata committee before commencement of the works.

Cosmetic changes won’t require approval, so you are fine to insert nails or screws in walls, paint, fill holes and cracks in internal walls, lay carpet and install or replace handrails, built-in wardrobes and internal blinds and curtains. However, for any other renovation you will need to receive approval.
